Yunus Centre

Professor Muhammad Yunus, 2006 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate called on  the Crown Prince Naruhito and Princess Masako at their invitation on July 20 in Tokyo at the Imperial Palace. Both of them have long been interested in microfinance and social business. The Imperial couple  discussed  Professor Yunus's concept of social business and its potential role in solving some of society's most pressing problems, in Japan, Bangladesh, and elsewhere. Princess Masako had expressed particular interest in  meeting Professor Yunus since her father, Justice Hisashi Owada,  a former diplomat and currently President of the International Court of Justice, is a long time  friend of Professor Yunus. Justice Owada and Professor Yunus both serve on the board of  United Nations Foundation founded and chaired by Ted Turner.

Japan's economy has been at its best when rural and bottom-up integrated; surely Japan will be a leader of green stockmarkets as a solution to its over-investment in nuclear

Japan's banking and property crash of 1980s is a main lesson of how a whole next generation loses out when it has to pay for a bail out (unless one makes rich owners of banks pay for bank failures and property bubbles then macroeconomics of government bailouts are by defintion a huge disinvestment in youth and in that place's future job creation - Obama's macroeconomics team'swrong way round of dealing with wall street collapse of 2008 will consign the net generation to a 2010s of serial slumps instead of the most producticve decade ever which the internet's doubling of vital sultions franchises could now be linking in)

I gave first Yunus SB book to head of JICA in USA in early 2008; he was very interested; JICA is arguable the most bottom up of major aid agencies; amongst other things Jpaan Aid agencies are world leaders in ctrop science for the poor

At one stage much of the technology of Grameen Shakti was piurchased from Japanes suppliers of solar; not uptodate on how that  sphere of relationships is moving

In mapping since 1975 the Asian Pacific www Century 1976-2075 the dynamics between Jpaan Bangladesh China and India are of a special concern to my family's journalism and friends of empoweiring productive net generation - we are interested in "residences' of yunus throughout the region. We define residences as a place that wishes to collaboratively lead with a cluster of WorldClassProjects inspired by Youth and Yunus

Yunus Centre report continued

Earlier on the day Professor Yunus met the Prime Minister  of Japan at his residence. Prime Minister Kan,  who met Professor Yunus during his previous visit when Mr Kan was in the opposition, wanted to know the progress of social business, which proposes that individuals and companies begin non-loss non-dividend companies to solve society's problems in Japan. Professor Yunus and the Prime Minister discussed in the context of a new approach recently taken by the Prime Minister proposing a concept of Public Service for Japanese society that emphasizes that all social responsibility should not be on the shoulder of governments alone, and advocates that partnerships have to be created with other actors in order to solve society's problem.

Prime Minister Kan and Professor Yunus also discussed the existing partnerships between Grameen and Japan, and possibility of future collaborations. He was happy to know that Japan's foreign aid agency JICA is taking active interest in social business. Prime Minister said that he would like to continue to support initiatives undertaken by Professor Yunus, and will also introduce  policy changes to enable Japanese development agencies to invest in social business

(JICA was abpout to start a major fund with Yunus but due to tsumai and nuclear meltdown most Japanese foreign aid has been postponed)
