Dismal consequences abound around the interactions of Muhammad Yunus and US presidents. I am not blaming anyone- indeed I think it is evidence that the PR machine that marooned the white house is arguably the biggest barrier to leadership learning that has ever been accidentally spun. And its part of a non-economic pattern that has caused USA to design education systems divorced from job creation
OK there have been 3 presidents in office -two of whom appeared to love to learn from yunus
I am assuming this was not particularly the case of Bush - though I still have to pinch myself when I wonder if a 9 year old new yorker was the only guy in town who as late as january 2008 saw subprime as anything other than America business -and lawyers - as usual
When it comes to Obama, his mother helped indonesians pioneer microcredit in the 1980s- it was an effecxtive way to sustain craftmanship which she has so lovingly written about and which became the job interview ofjim kim for the world bank in 2012
When it comes to the clintons they searched out yunus in bangladeshi vilages before Bill ever became president. Later when promoting his book on giving, Clinton correctly contexualised he world of gramkeen and brac as a atotally new econokmic model for ssitainaing a develooing nation
But I dont think the clintons studied how 4 markets converged- microcredit is no more about banking than it is about apprentice spip systems or lowest cost healyh networking or redesigning whole markets valu chains so that provided you work hard and to microfrnachsise specification that your credit trained you in, there will be a local sellers market
The YunusCity exercise - next deadline when US Congress gets a masterclass in the faith of ending poverty from Pope Francis (the previous masterclass did not go that well in that the curriculum of how dr yunus did what he dis has never been correctly edited for Americans be they students or exercising high power) | . |
